Baby Beats
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9-9:30 am, April 23-June 13 2024 Online via Zoom CLASSES ARE FREE–funded entirely by Music Equals supporters Baby Beats gives parents with babies and toddlers a chance to participate in music sharing time together from the comfort of their own homes. Instructor McKenna Ogg uses nursery rhymes, books, music recordings, dance, movement, and body percussion to introduce basic musical foundations to our littlest participants. Children enjoy a variety of activities which focus on rhythm, motor skills and pitch while their parents begin to understand how their babies learn. This course will offer a new perspective of how culture and music can function as an expression of madness while providing paths to healing. We will explore the history of psychiatric patient activism, while also listening to the works of artists such as Nina Simone, Schumann, Sun Ra, and Iggy Pop.

Black History Month Vocal Workshop-Celebration of Spirituals and West Indian Song
Chapel Bryce Hall, 515 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaAges 16+. Songs to be covered include field songs, work songs and popular and lesser known vocal gems from the West Indies. You will learn these songs through the aural-oral method of song acquisition, based on West African musical practices. Techniques such as call and response and use of body percussion will be covered.
