The “Mad” identity is a focus of interest in disability studies which seeks to question the dominant narrative of what modern society calls “mental illness”. This course will offer a new perspective of how culture and music can function as an expression of madness while providing paths to healing. We will explore the history of psychiatric patient activism, while also listening to the works of artists such as Nina Simone, Schumann, Sun Ra, and Iggy Pop.

Ages 3-5. Explore four weeks of musical theatre in a small group to help determine whether your child is ready for the next step in their musical journeys with activities designed especially for busy minds and bodies who love music!
12+/Grade 5 RCM. Intended for intermediate-advanced players looking for ensemble experience. This four week introduction invites intergenerational string and piano players to learn to collaborate and work together as a musical team with the goal of performing at an MCMA recital.

Ages 10+. This group class will prioritize learning to breathe, sing, and tell stories as a group. The class will begin by focusing on unison singing and move towards introducing harmony based on level and interest of participants. This is a multilevel, intergenerational class that invites anyone wanting to explore the skills needed to be a part of a choir or vocal group.
Ages 0-3. Baby Beats gives parents with babies and toddlers a chance to participate in music sharing time together from the comfort of their own homes. Instructor McKenna Ogg uses nursery rhymes, books, music recordings, dance, movement, and body percussion to introduce basic musical foundations to our littlest participants.
Ages 2-3. This hands-on group is a fun and engaging place to introduce your children to early musical concepts, build social connections, and foster a love for music.
Ages 4-5. This un-parented group will use a variety of instruments, movement songs and familiar tunes to create a fun space for connecting and making music.

Ages 16+. Songs to be covered include field songs, work songs and popular and lesser known vocal gems from the West Indies. You will learn these songs through the aural-oral method of song acquisition, based on West African musical practices. Techniques such as call and response and use of body percussion will be covered.
Ages 16+. Explore the artistic and musical contributions of peoples of African descent through paint and sound. Join us on a visual and aural journey through the last 200 years of the contributions of Black artists. Let the musical styles and visual expressions inspire your own artistic exploration as we pay tribute to those before us.
