Stephen Kiz

Stephen Kiz is Winnipeg born accordionist who studied with Ted Komar and Len Hunchak. During his studies Steve competed in a number of Canadian and ATG (Accordionist and Teachers Guild) competitions in Winnipeg, Toronto, St Louis and Chicago bringing home several trophies. Steve has performed both as a soloist and with various groups for the Folkarts Council of Winnipeg (FACES) for over twenty five years appearing across western Canada and in the United States. From 2001 to 2008 he was rehearsal accordionist and conductor/arranger for the Ukrainian National Federation School of Dance.

Steve has been involved with Folklorama for over twenty five years performing at and arranging for such pavilions as Italy/Sicily, Alpine (German/Austrian), Brazil, Kiev (Ukrainian) and most recently, the Spirit of Ukraine pavilion. Steve currently leads and arranges for several of his own groups including the BMW (Bavarian Musik Werks) band, the BMW Dixieland Band and the BMW Brass Band. Steve is also active in several other projects as an arranger and accordionist. These include the Dennis Nykoliation Band and the High Profile band.

I studies with Tom Komar and Len Hunchak.

How are your lessons unique?

I write custom arrangements in a variety of styles for my students.

What do you love about teaching?

It is satisfying passing along musical techniques and ideas to others.

Music teaches you skills that will help you in other areas of your life.
