Facilities and accessibility

Facilities

Our facilities are designed to build musical focus and community, resulting in a high achievement rate!

As part of our musical community, students are encouraged to drop by to practice or jam in any open music studio free of charge from Monday-Thursday between 12-3 pm. Simply call our office at 204-988-7650 or stop by to book a studio (practice space is subject to availability).

The Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts is located at the University of Winnipeg in Bryce Hall (515 Portage Avenue). Bryce Hall is the building where the chapel is located–directly east of Wesley Hall (the “castle” building). The entrance to Bryce Hall is off the walkway between Wesley Hall and Bryce Hall.

Please use the buzzer to access the building on weekends and after 6 pm on weekdays.

Accessibility

We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for our students. We strive to provide group music classes and music lessons that are welcoming, accommodating, and supportive of diverse accessibility needs.

The chapel and ensemble room (where we hold most of our group classes) are both accessible by a ramp outside Bryce Hall. Once you enter the building, you’ll find a gender neutral, accessible washroom available to you. This is next to a push plate activated door leading to our ensemble room. We also have an accessible studio with a piano available to you on the main floor. There is a Handi-Transit stop across the street from Bryce Hall. To request accommodations (including access to Bryce Hall from the top of the ramp), please email info@mcma.ca or call 204-988-7650 upon registration.

The Asper Centre for Theatre and Film (where our Musical Theatre for Adults group class is held) is accessible via a ramp with a railing outside the building with a push-plate activated door at the top. There is an accessible women’s washroom with a push-plate activated door on the main floor, and an accessible men’s washroom with a push-plate activated door on the basement floor. There is an elevator available to get down to the basement where the classroom is located. Some classrooms may have stairs-please contact us if this will be an issue for you. There is a Handi-Transit stop nearby on Balmoral Street. To request accommodations, please email info@mcma.ca or call 204-988-7650 upon registration.

If you are in need of a fully ramped entrance to Convocation Hall (where our student recitals are held), you can go in through Leatherdale Hall-there is an intercom at the outside door where you can be let in remotely without having a security guard stand there. From there, you’ll go through Leatherdale Hall, then take the elevator up to the second floor. There is a Handi-Transit stop across the street from Convocation Hall. To request accommodations, please email info@mcma.ca or call 204-988-7650 upon signing up for the student recital.
