Intro to Fiddling invites current violin students who are playing at a grade 2 RCM or Suzuki late Book 1 and up to explore traditional Metis and Canadian fiddle music with Grandmaster Champion Patti Kusturok. Students will learn mostly by ear but may also include the use of tablature or sheet music.
Intended for intermediate-advanced players looking for ensemble experience. This four week introduction invites intergenerational string and piano players to learn to collaborate and work together as a musical team with the goal of performing at an MCMA recital.
Intro to Ensemble Singing will prioritize learning to breathe, sing, and tell stories as a group. The class will begin by focusing on unison singing and move towards introducing harmony based on level and interest of participants. This is a multilevel, intergenerational class that invites anyone wanting to explore the skills needed to be a part of a choir or vocal group.
Songs to be covered include field songs, work songs and popular and lesser known vocal gems from the West Indies. You will learn these songs through the aural-oral method of song acquisition, based on West African musical practices. Techniques such as call and response and use of body percussion will be covered.
