Sarah grew up in Southwestern Manitoba, and began music lessons at an early age. Upon graduating high-school, she attended Brandon University pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Performance. During this time, Sarah prepared three solo recitals, performed with the BU Orchestra as winner of the Concerto Competition, and traveled to Havana, Cuba on tour with the BU Chorale.
After moving to Winnipeg, Sarah had the opportunity to perform with local ensembles such as Renaissance Voices, The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Winnipeg, and Manitoba Underground Opera. She also began studies at the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music and achieved a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Performance.
What is your education and experience?
Bachelor of Music Performance, Brandon University; Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Performance, University of Manitoba.
How are your lessons unique?
I strive to teach each student however they are best able to learn. I try to relate concepts and technique to all my students in a way that they can clearly understand.
What do you love about teaching?
I am thrilled to be joining the teaching faculty at MCMA for many reasons, but most importantly it allows me to pay forward the knowledge and skill set that I was fortunate enough to acquire when I was a young person. Learning to sing unveils a space for creativity, self-expression, and testing the limits of what you think your instrument can do! In my studio, I will strive for my students to find their own creative outlet, develop healthy vocal technique, and have fun while doing it! The most important result to me is for the student to feel confident and excited to come to their lesson each week. I can’t wait to begin making music with all of you!
What would you say to someone who is thinking about taking music lessons?
It’s never too late! If you have an interest in music, it’s worth pursuing. Music is a language that everyone can learn with a little guidance, and a will to make it happen!
