Paul De Gurse is a Winnipeg-based music director, keyboard player and composer. He works primarily as a conductor of music theatre orchestras across Canada. He has been nominated for a Merrit award for outstanding music direction (Beauty and the Beast-Neptune Theatre) and a Winnipeg Theatre award for best design (sound design,the Whipping Man-Winnipeg Jewish Theatre). In 2018 he was the music director and conductor for two enormously successful Canadian productions: Rainbow Stage’s Beauty and the Beast and Neptune Theatre’s Mamma Mia.
In 2012 Paul earned a Bachelor of Jazz studies degree from the University of Manitoba. Through Rainbow Stage’s creative mentorship program, he has studied under veteran Canadian theatre conductors Jeffrey Huard, Elizabeth Baird and Stephen Woodjetts. Since then, his work as a music director and conductor for musical theatre productions has taken him to theatres across Canada, including Rainbow Stage, Drayton Entertainment, Neptune Theatre, and Toronto’s Acting Up Stage company.
Paul is especially passionate about music and music theatre education. He enjoys teaching jazz and contemporary piano, and also enjoys preparing vocal students for theatre auditions, providing vocal coachings, and teaching masterclasses. He is a founding member of the Village Conservatory for Music Theatre.
