SUMMARY:FREE Tune-In Music Program (at the West End Cultural Centre)
DESCRIPTION:The Tune-In Music Program has been an integral part of the West End Cultural Centre for almost as long as the WECC has been around. We offer FREE music instruction on the guitar\, bass\, drums\, voice\, and songwriting for youth ages 8-18. \nProfessional musicians provide two hours of instruction and mentorship once a week (Tuesdays from 4-6 pm) with new instruments provided through a grant from The Cardinal Foundation. The DJ Academy was on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic\, but since then\, the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts has partnered with Mama Cutsworth to bring her DJ Academy back! In this beginner course\, students will learn the basics of scratching\, beat matching songs\, stage presence\, the history of DJing\, and more. No experience or equipment is required\, just a passion for music! \nThis hands-on program is intended for adults whose genders are under-represented in the DJ world\, be it cis or trans women\, 2-Spirit or non-binary folks\, and so on. The course welcomes anyone who self-identifies as part of this wide spectrum of gender expression.

DESCRIPTION:If you are an adult singer looking for community\, shared experience\, and a supportive\, no pressure musical environment\, the MCMA Adult Choir might be exactly the right fit! Led by the incomparable Chrystl Bartel\, singers of all experience levels will explore a “formal” choral experience\, using varied repertoire to learn singing in parts. This choir which will reflect an inspirational context focusing on peace\, love and kindness and include Canadian composers\, musical theatre\, sacred selections\, pop music and show tunes. Students are not expected to know how to read choral music and this concept will be well supported. All skill levels and voice types are welcome! \nAccessibility: The chapel (where this group class is held) is accessible by a ramp outside Bryce Hall. Once you enter the building\, you’ll find a gender neutral\, accessible washroom available to you. An accessibility map can be viewed here. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever listened to a barbershop quartet or choir sing in perfect harmony and been mesmerized by the sounds? Are you an adult singer of any experience level looking for a unique musical experience to share with other music lovers\, while fostering a sense of community? Our new A Cappella Singing for Adults group will focus on discovering new skills in a supportive\, low pressure environment where students feel safe to try new things while allowing their voices and ears to develop. The goal is to focus on listening and working together\, first in unison and eventually in multiple harmonies as you explore multiple genres of music and sound together. Led by the incomparable Chrystl Bartel\, prepare yourself to exceed your own musical expectations! This program includes two (optional) recital opportunities per year. \nPlease note that this is a year-long program\, and students can register at any point during the year. The cost is $150/month\, so when you register\, you’ll pay your first $150 monthly installment online\, then our office will contact you to set up automatic payment withdrawals.
