Meet our new Executive Director, Heitha Forsyth!

We are pleased to announce that Heitha Forsyth has accepted the position of Executive Director with the Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts (MCMA) team effective October 11, 2022. Heitha completed a Bachelor of Music, Vocal Performance (Jazz) at the University of Manitoba and a Bachelor of Music Therapy at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU). Heitha (aka Sol James) is a sought-after vocalist in the Winnipeg music community, both as a live performer and recording artist. For the past three years, Heitha has been the Program Manager for U-Turn Parkinson’s, a non-profit organization serving people living with Parkinson’s Disease. Heitha has been involved with the MCMA since 2013 when she joined our teaching faculty as a voice instructor and in 2016 joined our Student Services staff prior to enrolling in the Music Therapy program at CMU. Heitha’s extensive knowledge of music and the music community in Manitoba along with her creative energy will most certainly support the success of the MCMA into the future.

As we welcome Heitha, we say farewell to Norine Harty, who will be retiring on October 28. Norine began her employment with the MCMA in July 2010 as Managing Director and moved into the role of Executive Director in February of 2012. Norine has taken the MCMA from an organization struggling financially and administratively to a fiscally stable music school with a highly respected reputation. Norine was tasked with implementing significant changes: moving from high deficits to operational surpluses, implementing policies and procedures to ensure the livelihood of the organization, relocating to the University of Winnipeg, and operating through a pandemic. Norine has taken on all these challenges successfully, and with her characteristic poise. We are so grateful for all she has done for our organization, as well as the Manitoba music and arts community.
