We are thrilled to announce that acclaimed musicologist, broadcaster, educator, award-winning author and long-time Music Appreciation course presenter for the MCMA, John Einarson, will be presenting music appreciation courses exclusively for the MCMA from now on.

Four of his books have been on the Globe & Mail bestsellers list while several have been ranked among the top ten best music biographies in the UK and received award nominations. His book Hot Burritos: The True Story Of The Flying Burrito Brothers received the 2006 ARSC (Association for Recorded Sound Collections) Award for Excellence in Historical Recorded Sound Research. In January 2016, John was the recipient of the prestigious Order of the Buffalo Hunt by Premier Greg Selinger in recognition of his extensive work in preserving Manitoba’s music history. In 2021, he published an exhaustive history of Winnipeg’s rich and diverse music heritage spanning multiple genres under the title Heart of Gold: A History of Winnipeg Music. It was on McNally Robinson Booksellers’ Top Selling Books list for seven weeks.

John’s varied classes span decades of music and explore some of your favourite songs and artists in a fun, relaxed and accessible way. During the 2022-2023 Academic year, John will be presenting classes on Thursday evenings, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.  Topics for these classes will range from your favourite rock groups, to lesser known tidbits about the music industry, and how some of the most popular music of the last 50 + years came to be. These classes are presented virtually, as they attract a local, regional, national and international audience. Participants can join from anywhere, and invite anyone to join in on the fun.
