Tessa Springate is a vocalist, composer and music educator.  She is a graduate of Humber College’s Jazz Music program, where she majored in Vocal Performance, before going to York University to complete a BFA.  As a composer, Tessa has created music for a variety of short films, theatre productions and multimedia projects.

In 2007, she composed and performed music featured in the film “Acts of Imagination” which premiered at TIFF before touring various world film festivals.  More recently, she created the sound design for “Licking Knives” which appeared at the Toronto Fringe Fest, as well as Stratford’s SpringWorks Festival.  Tessa’s performance experiences have included stints with the Charcoal Sketch Cabaret, as a jazz singer with a variety of ensembles in the Toronto area, and most recently in a series of concerts and radio appearances in conjunction with local artists in the Palestinian West Bank.

Tessa is also an active educator, having taught at numerous music schools and programs in Canada and overseas.  She has adjudicated festivals, directed youth musicals, and regularly coaches vocalists preparing for auditions.  A recent arrival to Winnipeg, Tessa is thrilled to be exploring avenues of creativity and teaching in her new home!
