Maya began her violin studies at age 3, and developed as a musician under the guidance of Donna Grescoe and summer youth programs at the Banff Centre. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music in Performance from McGill University studying with Mauricio Fuks.

A working musician for over twenty five years, Maya currently plays with the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and has been a member of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, and long time extra player with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Some of her freelance work has included Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, the Esprit Orchestra, WSO, Symphony Nova Scotia, the RWB touring orchestra, stage productions with MTC, Livent and the Banff Centre as well as numerous sound recordings for film, television and various musical artists.

With 15 years of teaching experience behind her, Maya enjoys working with young and adult students alike, taking a creative and supportive approach while considering each individual students’ needs. An avid supporter of community outreach, Maya continues to teach fiddle classes in underserved communities through the MCMA’s Music Equals Outreach Program.
