Maya began her violin studies in Winnipeg at age 3 and as a teenager, developed under the guidance of Donna Grescoe, one of the founding members and teachers of the Manitoba Conservatory. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Music in Performance from McGill University studying with Mauricio Fuks. A working musician for the last twenty years, Maya has been a member of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra as well as the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, and spent the last eight years playing as a regular extra with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Her freelance work includes Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Esprit Orchestra, McGill Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet touring orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony. Maya has also played numerous live stage productions with the Banff Centre, LIvent, MTC, Rainbow Stage and recording sessions for CBC, Sony, Disney and Livent. In 2000, Maya’s interest in visual art took her back to school where she studied photography and received her BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver. Back in Winnipeg as of last year, Maya looks forward to working with young people and adults in a supportive and creative learning environment.
