A native of Winnipeg Manitoba, Matt Abraham holds a Bachelor of Music (Percussion) and a Bachelor of Education (Music) from the University of Manitoba. Percussion teachers include Jauvon Gilliam (National Symphony Orchestra, Washington) and Jeremy Epp (Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Winnipeg). An active freelance performer, Matt frequently performs as a percussionist with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and can also be seen performing for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Manitoba Opera Association. Additionally, Matt has played for other local/touring ensembles, and has enjoyed working on several Musical Theatre projects as well. Matt has worked with many outstanding percussionists, most notably Evelyn Glennie (Scotland), Arnie Lang (New York), Paul Yancich (Cleveland), and Jon Crabiel (Indiana).
As an educator, Matt is in demand as a clinician throughout Manitoba and beyond. In addition to teaching the Homeschool Band Program at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, Matt teaches jazz and concert band at Vincent Massey Collegiate in Winnipeg, and has been invited to present guest lectures at Canadian Mennonite University and Providence College. As an instructor for the University of Manitoba Preparatory Studies Division, Matt has a 100% success rate with students auditioning for post-secondary musical studies, with many students receiving scholarships to attend the post-secondary institution of their choice. Matt is a member of the Manitoba Band Association, the Percussive Arts Society, and the Manitoba Music Educators Association.
