Biography

Kurt Tittlemier is a professional classical guitarist and a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kurt has been the recipient of numerous awards including: the Manitoba Music Educators String Scholarship award, Winnipeg Music Festival Solo competition, Senior Bach Class (1998), University of Victoria Graduate Studies Teaching Assistant Fellowship (2000). Kurt is an alumni of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, and has completed two degrees with a concentration on classical guitar performance. Kurt is a Bachelor of Music graduate of the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Music. Upon his completion of bachelors studies Kurt was admitted into the studio of Dr. Alexander Dunn and the faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Vitoria. In 2004 Kurt was awarded a Master of Music from the department of graduate studies at the University of Victoria. Kurt’s commitment to classical guitar has allowed him to receive mentorship and experience at some of the world’s most elite festivals, including: The Guitar Foundation of America’s annual convention in La Jolla, California (2001), and San Francisco (2008), The Sierra Nevada Festival, Lake Tahoe (2008), The Victoria Conservatory of Music Summer Academy (2007), Domain Forget Summer Academy, Quebec (1998). Kurt has had the pleasure of performing for clinicians such as Fabio Zannon (Brazil), Roland Dyens (France), David Tannenbaum (USA), Judicael Perroy (France), Stephen Aaron (USA), Jerffery McFadden (Canada), Nigel North (Switzerland), and David Leisner (USA). Professionally Kurt has performed with members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, west coast virtuoso Alexander Dunn, and collaborated with Multi-media artist Freya Olafson. Kurt is an active teacher and pedagogue in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. He has served as an adjudicator for the Brandon Festival of the Arts, The Manitoba Conservatory of Music Faculty Scholarship, and the University of Manitoba’s Division of Preparatory Studies Enrichment Program. Kurt is very proud of his student base in Winnipeg; many have gone on to win top local prizes such as the CanWest Jazz scholarship and the classical enrichment scholarship at the University of Manitoba. Kurt is currently a faculty member of the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts, the Canadian Mennonite University Community School of Music and Arts, and the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Music, in the division of Preparatory Studies. Kurt would like to thank the Manitoba Arts Council, and the Winnipeg Arts Council for their continued support of professional development.
