Biography
Praised for her warm tone and expressive playing, Canadian flutist Haley Rempel is gaining reputation for her sophisticated interpretations as well as her ability to capture audiences. In 2007, Haley graduated from Yale University with a Master of Music degree in flute performance. During her time at Yale she had the opportunity to study under the esteemed American flutist Ransom Wilson, an experience that formed the basis for her approach to the flute. She has also had the privilege of studying with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s principal flutist Timothy Hutchins while she was an undergraduate student at Montreal’s McGill University. Haley has been a freelance flutist in southern California, Connecticut, Montreal and Winnipeg. In 2009, she completed her first concert tour of Germany, France and Canada with organist Peter Letkemann and also performed in a debut recital with renowned harpsichordist Eric Lussier. While studying at Yale, she performed twice in Carnegie Hall with the Yale Philharmonic Orchestra. This past June, Haley made her debut at the Agassiz Chamber Music Festival, appearing in recital with both Mr. Lussier and pianist Max Fleischman. Miss Rempel is a dedicated performer of baroque music and is equally at home with contemporary works, being given the opportunity to premiere a number of works in Canada and the USA. In addition to her principle teachers, Haley has actively sought out chances to study with a number of the world’s foremost flutists in private lessons and master classes, including Dr. Dieter Flury, Jean-Claude Gérard, Maxence Larrieu, Jeanne Baxtresser, Tara-Helen O’Connor, Susan Hoeppner, Dr. Kathleen Rudolph, Carolyn Christie and Leone Buyse. Miss Rempel has been the recipient of several awards including the Gold Medal for Flute Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, the Governor General’s Award at the Winnipeg Music Competition Festival and scholarships to attend both Yale and McGill Universities. In the past several years, Haley has held teaching positions at Platt College (San Diego), the Orange County High School of the Arts (California) and as undergraduate flute instructor at Yale University. Future engagements include invitations to participate in a workshop at the National Flute Association’s 2010 Convention and a performance with Musik Barock in their 2010-2011 season.
