2017-18 WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

The 2017-18 workshop series provides students (and parents) with information and education on trending topics related to music and musicianship.

Students (and parents) may choose to attend single workshops or register for the entire 2017-18 series. Space in the workshops is limited, so REGISTER EARLY to be sure of a spot.

How to Practice Effectively with Madeline Hildebrand

Do you find yourself spending time practicing, but aren’t satisfied with the progress you are making? As the parent of a music student, are you interested in learning how to motivate your child to practice and make practice fun? This workshop will help you make the most of your practice time and give you tips and tools to take away so you can make the most of your practice time. All Ages, Parents welcome.

 

 

 

All That Jazz with Rob Chrol

If you think you know what jazz is all about — think again! This workshop will open your ears to a whole world of music. You’ll never hear pop, rap or musical theatre in the same way again! This workshop will even have you starting some basic improvisations and melody writing in a fun, low-pressure setting. All ages, no previous jazz experience required. Bring your instruments!

 

Fiddle Me This, Fiddle Me That with Cameron Baggins

What’s the difference between classical violin and fiddling? Find out at our fiddling workshop with Cameron Baggins, founder of the world-class Frontier Fiddlers for an afternoon of fiddling. You’ll explore Manitoba’s rich fiddling tradition and be playing reels and gigs in no time! Previous violin experience recommended. All ages, parents welcome.

 

Successful Performance Strategies with Aman Hussain PhD (candidate)

You’ve practiced for hours, rehearsed with your accompanist or fellow musicians, and are ready to nail your performance. But why didn’t it happen? This workshop will teach techniques that will enable you to rise above the nerves, distractions and pressures of a live performance. Successful performers use their emotions to generate their best performances, you can too! Just in time for Festival season!
