DID YOU KNOW? Woodwinds are defined by the fact that they all make music via a vibrating reed. The saxophone is the only “woodwind” that was never made of wood. In a brass instrument the sound is made by air forced through the instrument itself. The pitch of a brass instrument is generally determined by the length of the tube. Pythagoras studied and quantified the mechanics of music made by brass (and string) instruments.
